Western Australia is one of the largest states in the world, with a diverse climate, history, wildlife, and countryside.  About the size of Western Europe and one-third the size of Australia’s total landmass, Western Australia offers the country’s sunniest capital city, Perth, largest expanse of outback, one of the oldest known living cultures on Earth, fantastic whale watching expeditions and spectacular food & wines – with plenty of reasons to return. Combine this Western Australia tour with one to Ningaloo Reef to swim with the whale sharks!

Ottlah directly engage with conservation and community organizations in order to develop tourism in Western Australia.  Combining the personal experience of walking through nature with the benefits of a professional guide allows you to gain a deeper understanding of the areas you visit as you’ll hear the stories behind the places you walk in and you’ll also feel safe each step of the way.  For example, the Cape to Cape Walk of Western Australia specifically meets strict selection criteria including Australia Ecotourism certification and reviews of sustainable operations in sensitive environments.

Day 1 : Perth

Upon your arrival in Perth, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the COMO The Treasury, which is a 48 room contemporary luxury hotel in Perth’s newly revitalized historic heart. Occupying state buildings dating from the mid 19th century, COMO The Treasury opens up the city with new experiences by way of two restaurants, a bar and world renowned COMO Shambhala wellness therapies.

Depending on the arrival time, upon check-in and some time to relax, you can begin taking in the iconic cityscape on a walk, run, or cycle along the Swan River foreshore. From there, it’s just a short hop up to the best views in the city from Kings Park and Botanic Garden – one of the largest inner city parks in the world. Catch the free CAT bus or take the 25-minute walk from the center of Perth. Overnight in Perth.

Day 2 : Fremantle

Fremantle and its beautifully preserved 19th century port streetscape, is just a 30-minute train ride from central Perth. Or you can take the scenic route via the Swan River, on a cruise from Barrack Street Jetty.

You’ll head for the Cappuccino Strip to ponder the impossibly long list of morning coffee options before hitting the history trail to World Heritage listed Fremantle Prison. On an insightful guided tour of this maximum security gaol you’ll learn of the conditions endured by convicts and the daring escapes during its 136-years of operation.

In striking contrast, a visit to the modern architecturally designed Western Australian Maritime Museum gives unique views of some of the most awe-inspiring vessels in maritime history. If you’re visiting on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a public holiday, experience the aromas, produce and crafts of Fremantle Markets – shoppers and visitors have been drawn here for more than a century.

Feast on fresh fish and chips at Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbor for lunch. It’s been the best place to grab the catch of the day since the early 1900s. Or sample some local handcrafted beers at one of the city’s brew houses, alongside a tasty small bites menu and a lively family-friendly atmosphere.

Spend the rest of the afternoon soaking up Freo’s free-spirited attitude – it’s a mecca for artists from the worlds of fashion, music, performing arts, painting, Aboriginal art and sculpture. Explore the boutiques and galleries and/or check out the calendar of events for arts festivals. Return to Perth for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 : Rottnest Island

Head out to Perth’s idyllic island playground – a car-free Class A reserve known as Rottnest Island, or ‘Rotto’ for short. Regular ferries run from Perth’s Barrack Street Jetty. Rottnest is easy to explore in a day. Pick up maps and guides from the Rottnest Island Visitor Center and choose your preferred method of transport – the Bayseeker Bus, bike hire or walking.

Before leaving Thomson Bay Settlement, you’ll be provided with water and picnic supplies from the island’s bakery, cafes or general store. Head up to Oliver Hill to discover some of Rottnest’s military history, or follow the coast to pretty Little Salmon Bay. Take your pick from the island’s 63 white-sand beaches and 20 clear bays for a lazy picnic lunch. Little Parakeet Bay is a picturesque spot for a swim and snorkel. Keep a look out for Western Australia’s cutest marsupial, the quokka, seeking shade under the trees and shrubs. Return to Thomson Bay and head for the cafes or bars for an afternoon drink, taking in the view of Perth’s city skyline from across the Indian Ocean. Head back to the jetty to catch the afternoon ferry back to Perth. Dinner and overnight in Perth.

Day 4 - 6 : Margaret River Cape to Cape Walk

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred three hours south of Perth to discover a land where rolling vineyards sit against a magnificent backdrop of ocean and forest. Geographically isolated and spectacular, you’ll discover Margaret River’s white sand beaches, karri forests and limestone caves all within easy reach. You’ll embark on a four day walk (one of the Great Walks of Australia) which is a fully guided, small group (2-14 people) walking experience that combines the best sections of the Cape to Cape track with once in a lifetime food and wine experiences and ultra-luxury accommodation at an exclusive cliff-top retreat.

Day 7 : Albany

Today, you’ll transfer back to Perth Airport for a short flight to Albany. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to the The Beach House at Bay Side. This boutique Albany accommodation experience is all about professional, warm country hospitality while enjoying life’s little luxuries including beautiful local food and wine and great advice on best hidden spots to visit. Located close to the dunes on Middleton Bay of King George Sound, and just minutes away from the historic Albany town center, you’ll marvel at the magnificent southern coastline and tranquil rural landscapes. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8 : Bremer Canyon Killer Whale Expedition

Early this morning, you will be transferred to Bremer Bay for a whale watching tour (boxed breakfast provided). Naturaliste Charters is the only operator with knowledge and experience of the Bremer Canyon marine environment and its wildlife. The crew lives, breathes and thrives on respecting the environment, and having fun on the water. Every expedition is led by a qualified marine biologist with extensive knowledge and experience in local marine ecology, wildlife and environmental education. Their deep knowledge of the ocean and its inhabitants allows them to deliver informative, educational experiences to guests of all backgrounds.

You’ll begin your day with an exciting and informative multimedia presentation detailing killer whale biology and ecology, as well as information about the other marine life you may encounter. Then, you’ll sail to the only location in Australia where you can reliably encounter killer whales in the wild, a journey of around 1.5 hours. Your day of unforgettable encounters is fully catered, with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided, and unlimited hot and cold beverages are available.

Return to Albany and overnight stay at the Beach House at Bay Side

Day 9 : Departure

You’ll transfer back to Albany airport for your flight to Perth for either an optional extension tour to Ningaloo Reef or back home.
